Install Overte

Overte is currently available for Linux and Windows.

For Linux the Interface Client is provided as an AppImage. There are seperate domain server packages available for common Linux distributions. To set up your own domain on Linux, see: Host a Domain from a Local or Cloud Linux Server.

For Windows the installer comes with both the client Interface and the domain server so you can host your own content easily from your own computer.

Configuration requise pour le Système

In order to run Overte, ensure that your computer meets these system requirements:

    • Ubuntu 20.04 64 bit, or most other modern Linux distributions

    • Minimum: Dual-core with hyper-threading

    • Minimum : Nvidia 600 series

    • Minimum : CPU Intel de 5e génération avec graphiques Iris intégré. L'utilisation de graphiques Intel intégrés n'est pas recommandée.

Note

The listed graphics adapters support OpenGL 4.1 and above. This is a requirement for any graphics adapter running Overte.

In addition, your network must have enough internet bandwidth to run Overte:

  • If you are using Interface only to explore Overte, then you should have Internet speeds of at least 10 Mbit/s download and 2 Mbit/s upload.

  • Si vous hébergez un serveur de domaine sur une machine distante ou sur votre ordinateur local, vous devez ajouter 10 Mbit/s en amont pour chaque utilisateur que vous souhaitez autoriser à visiter simultanément votre domaine. Note

Un monde spécialement conçu pour les systèmes bas de gamme peut fonctionner correctement sur un système avec un peu moins de mémoire ou un nombre de processeurs inférieur.

Note

Running Overte on a high resolution display or in VR mode will need a much better graphics adapter, depending on your display's resolution and targeted frame rate.

The current release is available to download on our website.

If you intend to use Overte in VR mode with an HMD, ensure your OpenVR or OpenXR runtime is also installed on your system before launching Overte.

We currently recommend using the SteamVR runtime with OpenVR for the best experience, including full body tracking.

Overte also supports OpenXR runtimes, including Monada and Wivrn, however there are still some issues with body tracking.

Install Overte

Once you've downloaded the installer, you're ready to install Overte. The process will be different based on your operating system:

Installation sous Windows

Pour l'installer sur Windows, il suffit de double-cliquer sur le fichier d'installation téléchargé pour l'ouvrir. Passez en revue les invites du programme d'installation. Une fois le processus d'installation terminé, l'Interface s'ouvrira et vous pourrez vous connecter et commencer à explorer le métaverse.

Installation sous Linux

  1. Mark the downloaded AppImage file as executable. (for example, with chmod +x Overte-2025.12.1-x86_64.AppImage.)

  2. (Facultatif) Si vous voulez que l'AppImage soit intégrée dans votre système, installez AppImageLauncher.

  3. Exécutez AppImage.

Actuellement, le serveur ne fait pas partie de l'AppImage de l'interface Linux. Pour héberger un domaine, veuillez vous référer à Héberger un Domaine à partir d'un Serveur Linux local ou cloud.

Upgrade Overte

Overte is always changing, as we work to improve performance and add features that will enhance your experience in the metaverse. At any time, you can download the latest release from our website.

You cannot upgrade Overte on Windows if you have Overte Interface or Server running on your computer. Be sure to quit these applications before upgrading. Keep in mind that Overte Server could be running in the background.

For Windows, locate the Overte app in your system tray. Right-click on the icon and select 'Quit'. Alternatively, end the 'server-console' background process using the Task Manager.

Effectuer une Installation Propre

If you're facing problems when you load Interface or the local Server, then you can try performing a clean install. A clean install removes multiple files and settings that you may need once you install Overte again.

Note

Assurez-vous de sauvegarder les fichiers suivants avant de procéder à une installation propre : Favoris, Vêtements, Contenu du Serveur et Entités. Ces paramètres seront supprimés lors de l'installation propre.

Linux Clean Install

  1. Find the location where you downloaded the AppImage and delete it.

  2. Browse to ~/.local/share/ and delete all folders with "Overte" in the name.

  3. Browse to ~/.config/ and delete all folders with "Overte" in the name.

  4. download, and install Overte again.

Installation propre de Windows

  1. Cliquez sur le menu Démarrer et tapez "Ajouter ou supprimer des programmes" dans votre barre de recherche Windows.

  2. Uninstall any versions of Overte that are visible.

  3. Once Overte is uninstalled, browse to your %Program Files% directory. Delete all folders with "Overte" in the name.

Avertissement

The next 3 steps will permanently delete your local Server's content. If you wish to keep this content, copy %AppData%/Local/Overte/assignment-client to another location on your computer before proceeding. Repeat for %AppData%/Roaming/Overte/assignment-client.

  1. Browse to your local %AppData% folder (usually C:/Users/<your_username>/AppData/Local). If you do not see the folder, make sure you can view hidden folders: in File Explorer, click View and make sure "Hidden Items" is checked. Delete all folders with "Overte" in the name.

  2. Browse to your roaming %AppData% folder (usually C:/Users/<your_username>/AppData/Roaming). Delete all folders with "Overte" in the name.

  3. Re-install Overte using the steps above. To restore your local Server's content, copy the assignment-client folders you previously saved back into their respective locations.
